Summer is kicking off with a local tradition that’s bigger than ever-the Smith and Davis Clothing Tent Sale returns for its 84th event, running June 12 through June 15.

What began 40 years ago as a humble sidewalk sale has evolved into one of the region’s most awaited shopping events. Sprawling across their 12-acre lot, the tent sale draws in both locals and out-of-state visitors in search of unbeatable deals on top brands such as Carhartt, Levi’s, Patagonia, and more. Smith and Davis Clothing began their tent sale tradition, one that would grow to become a community staple-drawing out locals and out-of-state visitors alike. The tent sale remains unmatched in terms of having the best brands at the lowest prices.

Tony Davis, co-owner of Smith and Davis Clothing, says the event serves a dual purpose: to attract new customers while rewarding long-standing, loyal customers with deep discounts- all items under the tent being 50% off.

“We hope by nearly giving away merchandise, we will win over customers that will make us one of their go-to places to shop,” said Davis. 

Local residents know the drill, with many taking PTO days to line up early on opening day, while the out-of-state tent sale enthusiasts plan entire trips around the event. Some even align their family trips to coincide with the sale.

“People originally from here that move away plan their vacations and trips to visit family here around the tent sale,” said Sam Perez, General Manager of Smith and Davis. “If they’re going to visit mom and dad over a weekend, they want to do it when they can do all their shopping.”

Jacob Davis, son of co-owner Tony Davis, remembers working parking duty during a previous sale and seeing 30 to 35 license plates, including Washington, Oregon, and Montana.

The event takes great lengths of preparation to make happen with staffing nearly doubling from 50 to 100 just to support the demand of the bi-annual event. Planning is essentially year-round: when one tent sale ends, the countdown and preparation for the next one begins. 

In addition to the tent sale milestone, Smith and Davis Clothing will celebrate its 60th anniversary on July 11th, marking six decades of serving the community with quality apparel and footwear. They are grateful for getting the opportunity to do so, and appreciate those who choose to continue to support their homegrown business.
