Kevin Lee Smith, father, husband, brother, uncle and friend, went home to his Heavenly Father
unexpectedly on May 10th, 2025. He was born in Danville, Illinois on August 26th,1965. He was
the second-born son of the late George and Mildred Smith and a brother to Brian and the late
Randy Smith. He graduated from Hartselle High School in Hartselle, Alabama in 1983. During his
teen years, he was a member of his local Boy Scout Troop and achieved the prestigious Eagle
Scout Award. After graduation, he joined the Alabama Army National Guard as a helicopter
mechanic and served from 1983-1988. During his basic training in Virginia, he became qualified
at the U.S. Army Aviation Logistics School. In 1986, Kevin received his A&P Mechanics License
from Northwest Alabama Technical College. During his service while in the reserves, he worked
at Petroleum Helicopters Inc. in Lafayette, Louisiana. After leaving the military, he worked at
the Memphis Aero/AMR services in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1989, Kevin was thrilled to accept
a position with Delta Air Lines as an Aircraft Mechanic in Atlanta, Georgia. During Kevin’s 35
year tenure at Delta Air Lines, he worked various positions throughout Technical Operations,
including International Line, maintenance center in the General Offices (GO), and Inspector. He
made many life-long friends at Delta. Kevin’s Delta family extended to his real family when his
daughter joined Delta and worked as a gate agent in ATL and SLC for eight years, then later
joined Communications Worldport ATL. Delta was Kevin’s gateway to the world. During his time
at Delta, he was fortunate enough to experience various temporary assignments (TDYs) in EZE
(Buenos Aires, Argentina), ICN (Incheon/Seoul, South Korea), LMK (Limerick, Ireland), and TLV
(Tel Aviv). Delta sparked his love of traveling and exploring the world with family and friends
—whether it was his annual salmon fishing trips in Alaska, his pilgrimage to Oshkosh, Wisconsin
to attend the annual EAA AirVenture, visiting his daughter in San Francisco, California, or
exploring a brand new country —Kevin knew to Keep Climbing. Kevin understood the value of
education, returning to school later in life and obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Professional
Aeronautics at Embry Riddle University (Worldwide Campus) in 2003. He had a lifelong passion
and talent for teaching. One of his roles at Delta Air Lines was to travel the country and instruct
airport firefighters. He also taught training courses for Delta Tech Op mechanics. He received
his instructor license for General Aviation and taught many students how to fly throughout his
aviation career at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, GA. Throughout his aviation career, Kevin
achieved over ~3,500 flight hours. Kevin’s aviation passion was unmatched. He gave 150% to
every assignment and had an incredibly strong work ethic. He lived in Peachtree City, Georgia
for 35 years and raised his two daughters there, the late Stefanie (spouse, Cody Fasselin) and
Rebecca. He loved his girls fiercely and was a classic “girl dad,” coaching their soccer and
basketball teams, volunteering for Girl Scout Troop outings and serving as a proud parent of the
Starr’s Mill High School Marching band. Kevin was involved in the Peachtree City community
whether it was aviation, Boy Scout Scoutmaster, church-led hurricane clean-ups — he truly had
a passion for service. He was a life-long Christian and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in 1993. He became a long-time member and valued his testimony and
Christian beliefs. Kevin married Victoria Smith in 2020 and gained two step-children, Gloria and
Elijah Wilson. Kevin and Victoria traveled to Alaska, Oshkosh, Florida and England and bonded
over their mutual love of aviation. He enjoyed spending time with Gloria and Elijah and sharing
his hobbies with them. He exemplified setting a strong example of being an invested step-
father. He is survived by wife, Victoria Smith; step-daughter, Gloria Wilson, step-son, Elijah
Wilson, former spouse, Beth Hulfeld; daughter, Rebecca Smith; brother Brian Smith (Suzie
Smith); nephews, Tyler Smith and Justin Smith. Preceding Kevin in death were his daughter,
