It’s time for Democrats who understand the urgency of the moment
SAVANNAH, GA — State Senator Josh McLaurin–an attorney, Georgia native, Double-Dawg graduate of UGA, 4-term member of the Georgia General Assembly, and outspoken advocate for working Georgians–launched his campaign today for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia.
“100 days in, the Trump administration is tanking the economy and ignoring court orders. But the Republicans running the State of Georgia are silent about Trump’s needless tariffs and his violations of Americans’ basic legal rights. Instead, Georgia Republicans spent the 2025 legislative session sucking up to Trump and trying to copy his destructive ‘DOGE’ approach to government,” Josh said.
“It’s time to elect state leaders who understand how crazy this moment in history is and are ready to stand up and do something about it. Georgia is my home and my heart. We’ve got amazing people and culture. We’ve got Waffle House. We could be a national example of how best to live, work, and raise a family. But our state is run by Republicans who can’t find the spine to tell the truth about Trump’s chaos–or do anything at all to fight back.”
“I’m running for Lieutenant Governor to give a voice to everyone who is yelling ‘WTF’ at their TV when the latest crazy news happens. Georgia should be putting up every obstacle possible to Trump’s authoritarian agenda at the state level. And while we’re at it, the Georgia legislature should be passing widely popular policies that Republicans have been blocking for years: Medicaid expansion, restoration of reproductive freedom, common sense gun safety legislation, and more.”
Sen. McLaurin will travel to Savannah’s port to announce his campaign. Trump’s tariff policy has caused dramatic economic uncertainty, and Georgia ports are widely expected to experience supply chain issues. Voters can expect higher prices and a weaker economy. Savannah’s port is a frontline in the fight that Georgia’s leaders should be waging against Trump’s senseless and destructive tariff policy.
Josh has a reputation for being vocal in the state legislature. He has fought hard for working people these last 7 years, and as Lt. Governor, he will continue to stand up to oligarchs like Elon Musk. America has had robber barons before, and we know how this story goes. Once people realize how much the oligarchs are stealing from the country, voters demand a change. That change is what this campaign is about.
Sen. McLaurin’s campaign also announced the following day-one endorsements from state and local officials:
Sen. Sally Harrell, Sen. Kim Jackson (Senate Minority Whip), Sen. Derek Mallow, Sen. Randal Mangham, Sen. Nan Orrock, Sen. Elena Parent (Senate Minority Caucus Chair), Sen. Freddie Powell Sims, Rep.
