Dear Editor,
I am writing as a long time advocate of swimming in our community to express my support for the construction of a natatorium in Peachtree City. As the mother of four children who have all been dedicated swimmers for many years, I can speak firsthand to the immense value that a quality swimming facility would provide for our youth and our community as a whole. Peachtree City is a great community yet is missing one critical piece, a dedicated year round olympic size pool.
Our local swimmers and water polo players currently face significant limitations due to the lack of an adequate facility. The current aging pool does not meet the necessary requirements for proper ventilation, which is essential for both the safety and comfort of those who use it. Highschool teams have minimal opportunities to practice. The current bubble is riddled with problems. A new natatorium would not only provide a healthier environment but also allow for expanded opportunities in aquatics for all ages, from recreational swimmers to competitive athletes.
Additionally, our community has a growing interest in water polo, and my youngest child was fortunate enough to be part of a state championship water polo team. The lack of time and space available for the team to have dedicated practices was a significant problem. The team traveled over an hour to utilize pools for both practices and competitions. Waterpolo is an exciting sport that has college scholarship opportunities. In order to continue nurturing talent and fostering success, we need a facility designed to accommodate the specific needs of water polo teams, including sufficient space and appropriate amenities.
Beyond the athletic importance, I can tell you that the friendships formed during swim seasons are invaluable. My daughters have continued to have lasting relationships with teammates from all over the area. These friendships help foster a sense of community, teamwork and shared achievement that have benefits for life.
A new natatorium would be an investment in the future of our children and our community’s well-being. It would provide a space for children to develop life skills, stay active, and pursue athletic goals, as well as a place for families to gather and enjoy recreational swimming.
I urge our city leaders to consider the long-term benefits of this project and work toward making it a reality for all of us! Together, we can create a space that will serve our community for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Tricia Lee
