Sandy Creek’s Jung leads local swimmers at state meet

Fayette County swimmers made a splash at the GHSA Swimming and Diving State Championships, racking up a number of top 10 finishes.

Sandy Creek’s Jack Jung was crowned the state champion in the 500 yard freestyle. Jung also placed 7th in the 200 yard IM, helping push the Patriot boys to 20th overall in Class 3A.

In other Class 3A action, the Whitewater boys placed 25th overall.

Soren Lundberg placed 9th in the 100 yard breaststroke and 10th in the 100 yard butterfly.

The Lady Wildcats finished 22nd overall.

In Class 5A, the McIntosh boys placed 14th overall.

Carter Wilt finished 3rd in the 50 yard freestyle and 5th in the 100 yard freestyle. Oliver Rodela placed 10th in the 100 yard backstroke.

The team of Carter Wilt, Connor Johnson, Kiran Chikhliker, and Oliver Rodela placed 8th in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Chiefs finished 27th overall.

In Class 4A, the Starr’s Mill girls finished 9th.

Megan Holmes placed 9th in the 100 yard backstroke.

The team of Emily Benson, Brooklyn Kluttz, Ella Glinski, and Chloe Tucker placed 7th in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Megan Holmes, Emily Benson, Mason Burgess, and Ella Glinski placed 8th in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Mason Burgess, Brooklyn Kluttz, Megan Holmes, and Chloe Tucker placed 9th in the 200 yard medley relay.

The Starr’s Mill boys placed 12th.

Braeden Roach finished 2nd in both the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle. Jack Lynch finished 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke and 7th in the 200 yard IM.

The team of Braeden Roach, Elliott Dale, Joshua Jiang, and Jack Lynch placed 5th in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
