COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – Immediately after she was arrested for felony theft, the Thomas Crossroads Elementary Principal was placed on administrative leave. Last Tuesday, Dr. Leticia J. Crosby resigned.
An anonymous school system employee indicated what many in the community are feeling, that something must be wrong with her, because it seemed so out of character.
As the author of this article, my sons attended Lee Middle School while she was in leadership there. And while administering a local character award on behalf of one of our business clients, we’ve interacted with her at Thomas Crossroads Elementary. I’m also shocked by this arrest, and saddened by her loss as a leader in the community.
How did it go down? Dr. Crosby was caught on camera shoplifting from the Kohl’s on Bullsboro Drive in Newnan. According to Coweta County arrest reports, a Coweta County deputy responded to Kohl’s on January 13 after receiving a complaint about the theft.
Store employees told police that a woman had shopped the store, filling a cart with over $900 in merchandise and left without paying on January 6. Ten days after the police were called, Dr. Crosby was arrested for the felony theft.
What was in the cart? A variety of items, including a dress, jewelry, t-shirts, sweaters and gift bags left the store.
According to the report this was not Dr. Crosby’s first shoplifting attempt. In November 2024, she took nearly $300 of merchandise without paying, and was stopped, but that incidence was not reported.
Deputies reviewed photos and video footage from the January incident before arresting Crosby. She was charged with felony theft by shoplifting and later bonded out of jail on Jan. 24.
According to the Coweta County Schools website, Crosby has been the principal of Thomas Crossroads Elementary since 2019. She previously worked at East Coweta High School as a science teacher and department chair and later served as an assistant principal at Lee Middle School.
