Four passionate students—Ariah Hardy, Jocelyn Polk, Makaila Foster, and Makenzie Foster—are leading a community initiative to raise awareness about anemia, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Through their project, the students aim to educate the public about anemia’s potential risks and encourage healthier lifestyle choices to prevent and manage the condition.
Anemia is a condition where the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to tissues, which can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and, in severe cases, organ damage. The condition is often preventable with the right dietary habits, including the consumption of iron-rich foods.
To help spread awareness, the students recently partnered with Outback Steakhouse to deliver meals to their local Fire Department. The meals, including chicken salad and baked potatoes, were rich in iron to highlight the importance of proper nutrition in preventing anemia. The group would like to extend special thanks to Tracey Milton, the manager of Outback Steakhouse, for generously providing the meals to support this important cause.
In addition to their recent outreach, the students are excited to announce plans for an upcoming Walkathon to raise both awareness and funds for anemia research. Details about the event are currently being finalized, and the students hope to host it in the near future to further engage the community in supporting the fight against anemia.
Through this initiative, the students are also working with local health experts to share valuable information on recognizing the symptoms of anemia and adopting healthier lifestyle choices to prevent its onset. By educating others, the group hopes to inspire individuals to take control of their health and help reduce the widespread impact of this condition.
