Ptc-Fayette Pickleball Club Raises $4,500 At 2nd Annual Charity Event Benefiting Healing4Heroes

Fayette area pickleball players rallied for a day of fun at the 2nd annual Healing4Heroes charity tournament on June 15th at the Flat Creek Country Club. The tournament raised over $4,500 through registration fees, an event raffle, and member donations, all of which will be donated locally to Healing4Heroes.

Sue Reed, event organizer and treasurer/membership director of the PTC-Fayette Pickleball Club, selected H4H as a benefactor after spending time with the charity and seeing first hand how service dogs change veterans’ lives. Healing4Heroes was started by Piper Hill, an Army veteran and local resident, who was inspired by her dog Valentine to help veterans lead healthy, productive lives. Hill, who served for 17 years, was injured during the timeframe of the Iraq and Afghanistan war, when she suffered a brain injury. That injury forced her to retire from service and erased three years of her life. The one thing she remembers from those three years of recovery is the fact that her dog Valentine never left her side.  Hill trained Valentine to help with daily challenges, such as retrieving medicine, helping get off the ground after a fall, assisting with grocery shopping, etc. She was determined to helpother veterans with the daily hardships they might endure.

In addition to helping veterans, Healing4Heroes helps communities by rescuing suitable dogs from local animal shelters.  All training costs, including food, veterinary care and housing for dogs in training are supported by H4H donations.
