The Patriots added another trophy to their collection. Sandy Creek High routed the Johnson High Atomsmashers, 74-49, for their second-straight state championship.

“It feels great. It was a much different experience this time around because everybody expected us to dominate,” said Coach Jon-Michael Nickerson. “When you’re talking about teenage kids having to play with that type of pressure, we’ve known we’ve been the favorite before and dropped the ball, and they dominated.”

Against Johnson, Jacobi Robinson paced the offense with 18 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 on 3-pointers. PJ Green and Jared White scored 12 apiece. Amari Brown added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Micah Smith filled the stat sheet with 15 points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The defense was dominant, limiting Johnson to just 29 percent shooting from the floor.

Sandy Creek finishes the season 26-3, with no losses coming against Class AAA competition.

The senior class of Smith, Brown, PJ Green, Kani Rashied-Henry, and Josh Hales leaves behind a legacy of success as the Patriots take aim at a three-peat next year.

“This senior group, they probably could’ve cut some corners and still won, that’s how good they are,” said Nickerson. “This next group is going to have to grind even harder, and they will because that’s the way it is at Sandy Creek.” — Story provided by the Fayette County School System.
