An Atlanta man tried to flee from police after an early-morning traffic stop and wound up in jail on multiple charges.

According to reports, Fayetteville officers pulled over a 2007 Lincoln Town Car just after 5 a.m. Dec. 2 near the Maaco on Hwy. 85, after the driver initially tried to flee when told to stop. He had a clear glass tube or pipe with suspected drug-related burnt residue inside, which the officer on the scene knew was an example of something typically used in conjunction with inhaling illicit drugs. Steel wool was found in the tip of the tube and also inside the vehicle.

Davez Barber, 37, of Atlanta is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, a felony. Other charges include possession/use drug-related objects, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of road, obedience to a traffic control device, open container, driving with a suspended license, and expired/no license plate/decal.

Elsewhere in the county, a Dec. 4 traffic stop led to an arrest on multiple felonies. DeAngelo Hanson, 20, of Austell faces nine counts of financial transaction card theft and one count each of theft by receiving stolen property and financial transaction card fraud, according to the Fayette County Jail log. Other charges included no proof of insurance, a tail light violation and theft by taking.

Peachtree City officers responded Dec. 5 to Home Depot and made contact with a shoplifting suspect along with a loss prevention officer. After a short investigation, police arrested Larry Arnold, 49, of Atlanta and transported him to Fayette County Jail.

A separate report indicated that the same suspect had removed security devices from expensive items at Walmart and left the scene when approached. The jail log shows that he is charged with felony shoplifting as well as criminal trespass.
