The Missing Soldiers – Wednesday, September 6 – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fayette Senior Services (FSS) – Fayetteville location at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive: During many of the wars fought by the American People, the unfortunate news to many families included that their loved ones, who so selflessly gave to fight for their country, were missing. These soldiers were later termed as Prisoners of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA). As of 2023, more than 81,000 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War and the Gulf Wars, among other conflicts. Renee Truitt and Wanda Hicks with the American Legion Post 105 share details about these missing soldiers and the traditions surrounding them such as the Empty Chair and Table. Our unique town has over 100 miles of multi-use paths for pedestrians, cyclist, and golf carts! What a great place to live! Join Debi Riddle with the Fayette County Historical Society as she turns back the clock and takes us through two centuries of history for our beloved Fayetteville. We will also welcome the 200th History Timeline banner presented in our Fayetteville center for two weeks during its tour around the city. From covered bridges to ruins of old mills, charming old churches and impressive courthouses, the Southside of Atlanta has wonderful sites to visit, full of great stories attached to their historic meaning and representation. Bonnie Helander, Gardening and Travel Writer for Southern Woman, shares stories of local places you can explore around the county from your car and even your golf cart! From iconic movies like “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Sweet Home Alabama” to the newest in Marvel movies and streaming television productions, you will get an insider’s view of what’s going on in the movie production world, filming right in our own backyard. Sherri is a semi-retired television and video producer and writer with many ties to the film and television industry. She has loved movies all her life but mostly, she loves movie making. She will share location sites and tell some great behind-the-scenes stories about productions, movie stars, and how Georgia was nicknamed The Hollywood of the South!
