The long-awaited pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Ga. Highway 54 near Fayetteville’s Piedmont Fayette Hospital will be installed overnight Saturday, June 3, and is expected to be open along with the connecting paved trails by early 2024.

All lanes of Highway 54 will be closed at the bridge installation site beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, to 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, to accommodate the work of lifting the bridge structure in to place and securing it to its permanent base. Traffic during that time will be detoured onto South Sandy Creek Road and Veterans Parkway. Signage will be in place to alert and direct motorists.

Following the bridge installation, construction crews will continue with grading, pouring the concrete pathway, and landscaping before the bridge is open to the public. Once opened, the bridge will be an important part of the community-wide trail system, which is being designed to connect all of Fayetteville.
