A Fayette County woman is facing charges for firing a gun at her boyfriend after he returned to the home to get his phone and kicked through a door following a dispute between the two.

The woman — Theresa A. Ellis, 53, of north Fayette County — was charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies on Nov. 10 at approximately 10 p.m. responded to a residence in the area of Westbridge Road in north Fayette.

The male resident at the scene told deputies his girlfriend (Ellis) shot at him and was still in the house, said Babb.

The man said he and Ellis had been in an argument, during which he decided to leave. He did so, but realized he had forgotten his phone and returned to the house to get it, Babb said of the report.

Returning to the house, the man said Ellis had locked him out of the house, and he subsequently kicked the door in to make entry.

The man reported that, once inside, Ellis fired a round in his direction, but missed, with the investigation later noting that the round had hit the garage door opener and a light.

The man told deputies Ellis grabbed his phone before he could get it and kept pointing the gun at him, said Babb.

At that point, the man said he left the house and obtained a phone to call 911.

Deputies arriving at the scene retrieved the weapon and, after the investigation, took Ellis into custody, Babb said.
