An Austell man is facing a child molestation charge for an incident involving an underage female that occurred in 2019.

Monte Armstrong, 58, was charged with one count of child molestation, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Tyrone Police Department spokesman Philip Nelson said a Decatur man in the second half of 2021 contacted police in what was initially considered to be a child custody issue.

Nelson said the man was returning his daughter to her mother, a Tyrone resident. The girl was being unruly and did not want to return to her mother’s house, Nelson said.

The girl made statements indicating that she had been molested by her mother’s boyfriend approximately two years prior while at the mother’s home in Tyrone, Nelson noted.

An investigation followed, along with a forensic interview with the victim, said Nelson.

Nelson said the investigation culminated with a warrant being issued for Armstrong, with law enforcement in Cobb County taking him into custody. Armstrong was then transferred to Fayette County on March 4.
