County teams dominate Griffin RESA Academic Bowl

Local teams reigned supreme at the Griffin RESA Academic Bowl, claiming the top spot in every division to advance onward.

The competition was split into three divisions: High School Varsity, High School Junior Varsity, and Middle School. Varsity and Junior Varsity teams finishing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place will represent the region in the Georgia Regional Academic Bowl (GRAB). The GRAB State Championship will be held face-to-face on February 26, 2022.

Starr’s Mill High won 1st place in the Varsity Division, with McIntosh in 2nd place and Sandy Creek in 5th.

Whitewater and Starr’s Mill tied for 1st place in the Junior Varsity Division, with McIntosh in 2nd place and Fayette County in 4th.

Rising Starr won the Middle School Division, with J.C. Booth in 2nd place. Flat Rock tied with Luella for 3rd place, with Bennett’s Mill in 4th.

The Griffin RESA Academic Bowl contest is a regional competition among middle and high schools in the Griffin RESA region, which consists of the Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson school systems.
