Dolphins dive into service project

The North Fayette Elementary community believes in giving back to those that support them. During the holidays, the Jr. Beta Club at the school hosted its first big community service project with a school-wide food drive.

The club, consisting of 4th and 5th graders, partnered with The Real Life Center and motivated the school community to donate non-perishable items. They designed posters to advertise the project, produced skits for the morning announcements, and created a school environment for serving throughout the building.

At the end of the two-week project, the 23-member Beta Club collected and organized all items, which were picked up by the Real Life Center. Over 2,500 items were collected.

The participants benefitted from the experience because it gave them a sense of purpose.

“This project offered vital help to people in need in our local community,” said club sponsor and 5th grade teacher Kim Simpson. “Students were able to inspire their school, support their surrounding community, learn new skills, and connect new ideas with other service projects.”

The Jr. Beta Club is already working on a new project: supporting Kindergarten students with math skills and reading.
