A Fayetteville mother is in custody on a charge of felony cruelty to children following an initial investigation by Fayetteville detectives.

Jennifer M. Anderson, 39, was charged with felony cruelty to children, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett said a Fayetteville School Resource Officer at a city elementary school on Oct. 29 was advised by a school counselor that a student made an outcry of physical abuse.

“Officers responded and spoke with school staff, who confirmed the outcry with staff and the child,” said Burdett.

Burdett said Fayetteville detectives were contacted and arrived at the school along with the Ga. Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS).

“The mother was contacted and interviewed. Based on the investigation, detectives made an arrest of the mother,” Burdett said.

Burdett noted that this case is still active and being investigated.

  1. Let’s hope for the best here and that there is a good family resolution.

    Simply for reference:
In the ’60s my Mom made me cut my on “switches”, that and the swishing sound as it cut through the air generally produced the attitude adjustment desired without actually inflicting much “corporal punishment”.
However, she did say “someday son I hope you have one just like you”, which I considered to be a “scarry thang” to say to an 8 yr. old….there were no school resource officers available in that era.
