A pedestrian died almost instantly March 19 when he stepped or fell into the path of an oncoming pickup truck on Ga. Highway 92 south of Fayetteville, said Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

And the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu died when he crossed over the center line of Hwy. 54 East near Corinth Road early Sunday morning into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer rig, the sheriff said. The man, with an East Point, Ga., address, was unresponsive when paramedics arrived.

The pedestrian, identified as Bruce Hanschuh, 59, of Fayetteville, either “darted” or fell into the path of the northbound Chevrolet Silverado Friday about 1:50 p.m. on Hwy. 92 near Pond Terrace just south of Fayetteville, Babb said.

The pickup driver, an out-of-county resident, told deputies he had no chance to avoid hitting Hanschuh, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No alcohol or drugs were involved, and no charges have been filed, Babb said.

Deputies were called to the scene of another fatality just after midnight March 21 east of Fayetteville on Hwy. 54. The driver of the Malibu apparently left his lane and drove head-on into an oncoming tractor-trailer truck. The name of the car driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin, Babb said. No charges are expected to be filed, Babb said.
