Weekend Covid cases in Fayette were up 31 Saturday and 18 Sunday for a pandemic total of 5,841, according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
At the same time, Covid vaccination numbers were concentrated in getting already vaccinated people their second shots. The Saturday and Sunday total of all shots — dose 1 and dose 2 — was 7,172, which was 316 more shots than Friday totals. The dose 1 numbers were only 66 of that, while weekend second shot numbers were 250 more than Friday.
The county added one more fatality Saturday to the local Covid list: a 66-year-old African-American man with at least one other underlying medical condition, according to DPH data. The death toll is now 124 local residents.
Fayette’s 2-week infection rate has dropped to 9.4% with 410 new cases reported in the past 14 days, compared to the 8.7% rate for the state.
Statewide, news cases were 2,390 on Saturday and 1,463 on Sunday for a weekend total of 3,853. The overall state total is now 804,812 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Statewide fatalities now total 14,633 — 99 added Saturday and 4 added Sunday.
