An Atlanta man was charged with a wealth of violations after driving recklessly in Fayetteville then crashing head-on into a deputy’s vehicle on Ga. Highway 92 south.

Manuel V. Morales, 20, was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction, reckless driving, criminal interference with government property, felony drug possession, misdemeanor marijuana, fleeing and eluding, DUI alcohol and drugs and driving with a suspended license, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Sheriff Barry Babb said Morales on Aug. 9 was spotted by Fayetteville police driving recklessly on Hwy. 92. The pickup Morales was driving fled the city, with the officer issuing a BOLO (be on the look-out).

A deputy on Hwy. 92 South pulled into the intersection at Antioch Road with lights activated in an attempt to intercept the vehicle. Morales struck the patrol unit head-on, exited his vehicle and fled on foot, but was soon apprehended by deputies, said Babb.

Babb said neither Morales nor the deputy were injured.

Morales was transported to the Fayette County Jail.
