The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has provided Fayette Senior Services, Inc. (FSS), a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, funding towards expanding their meal delivery services to seniors in our community for Coronavirus relief. As part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, ARC has awarded $63,652.89 in federal pandemic relief funds to FSS for providing senior services in Fayette County.

This will allow FSS to expand the number of older adults receiving nutritious meals who are at risk of food insecurity. These funds are not part of FSS’ annual home-delivered meals budget and will not be used towards their regular Meals On Wheels clients.

This act was approved by Congress in response to the economic impacts of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and was distributed among ARC partners in ten counties throughout the metro Atlanta area. FSS will allocate a majority of the funds towards new home-delivered meal clients and another portion will be used toward their congregate meal program. These funds will allow them to provide around 400 to 500 meals per month as the appropriate candidates are identified.

Throughout this pandemic, FSS has continued to provide meals for seniors in need, and the funding will help them continue to do so the remainder of the year as needs may increase due to Covid-19. As FSS begins their reopening in phases, Fayette County Administrator Steve Rapson shares his enthusiasm for the services they provide.

“Fayette County is excited about restarting our senior services,” Rapson said. “We are looking forward to seeing our seniors’ smiling faces while keeping their health and safety a top priority.”

Each year, FSS and a team of dedicated volunteers deliver over 56,000 meals to more than 300 homebound and semi-homebound older adults who reside throughout Fayette County. This effort is a dynamic partnership between the national network of local programs and the businesses, organizations, governments, and volunteers who contribute generously to their communities. To make a difference in the lives of others, join our team of Meals On Wheels volunteers! Together, we can deliver a difference!

For over four decades, Fayette Senior Services, Inc. (FSS), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has been making a meaningful difference in the emotional, social, and physical well-being of older adults.
