Drunk man tries out new pistol, 18 times, in residential area; police arrest him

A Peachtree City man was charged May 28 with discharging a firearm in the city and reckless conduct at a South Fairfield Drive residence he was visiting. No one was hurt in the incident.

Jose Garcia-Garcia, 32 was charged with discharging a weapon, discharging a weapon while under the influence and reckless conduct, according to Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Brad Williams.

Williams said Special Response Team officers at approximately 8:17 a.m. responded to a South Fairfield Drive residence concerning a report about hearing gunshots and seeing a man holding a handgun and a machete.

Officers set up a perimeter and got everyone out of the house, Williams said.

Williams said Garcia-Garcia was visiting the home and was intoxicated, and wanted to see how his recently acquired .22 caliber handgun worked by firing rounds into the ground in the back yard.

Officers retrieved 18 shell casing from the back yard.

No one was injured in the incident, said Williams.
