‘Infectious joy’ at library’s Rainbow Story Time

Thanks to the Fayette County Public Library in Fayetteville for hosting Rainbow Story Time (Saturday, March 7).

Books celebrating diverse families were  read by PFLAG representatives to assembled children, their families, and friends.

The stories featured a young boy taking part in the wedding of his two moms; a child with two dads at a Mother’s Day school gathering; a transgendered youngster welcoming a new baby into their family; and finally, a short sweet tale questioning  stereotypes entitled “Pink Is For Boys.”

Each tale was inspiring and charming.  Between readings, the children sang, danced, clapped, posed, laughed … their joy was infectious.

Watching this sweet merriment renewed my hope that one day diversity will not simply be accepted, but valued and celebrated.

Perhaps as the Old Testament Prophet foresaw , “… and a little child shall lead them.”
