Police seeking hit-and run driver in Tuesday death of Fayetteville man, 63

Update – Nov. 20: A criminal investigation is underway following the hit and run death of a Fayetteville man on Nov. 19 on North Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville Police Department has launched a criminal hit and run investigation after 63-year-old Fayetteville resident Sherlock McCall was struck and killed by a motorist Tuesday night, Nov. 19, on North Jeff Davis Drive near the Jefferson Avenue intersection, according to Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett.

Burdett said McCall was apparently crossing North Jeff Davis Drive on foot around 9 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by the vehicle. McCall was transported to an area hospital where he was declared deceased. His next of kin have been notified.

After an extensive traffic investigation, police have determined that this incident is a criminal case of hit and run, and a person of interest has been determined, said Burdett.

Fayetteville Public Information Officer Ann Marie Burdett said a Fayetteville resident was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night on North Jeff Davis Drive near the Jefferson Avenue intersection.

The incident took place around 9 p.m. as the adult male pedestrian was apparently crossing the road. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was declared deceased, Burdett said.

Fayetteville police officers are actively investigating the incident. If anyone witnessed the accident, they are asked to contact Lieutenant Austin Dunn at 770-719-4207.
