Man arrested after threatening to set girlfriend on fire

A Fayette County man was located and arrested after pouring gasoline on his girlfriend and threatening to set her on fire.

Elijah Lanier, 24, was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Deputies at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 5 were called to a domestic incident at on Foxtail Court near Hew Hope Road, said Sheriff Barry Babb.

Deputies were told that Lanier had poured gasoline on his girlfriend and threatened to set her on fire, said Babb.

Lanier had fled the scene and and arrived at New Hope Baptist Church, where he attempted, but failed, to gain access.

Lanier then fled into the wooded area behind the church, where he was located and arrested, said Babb.
