With only four days to make it to the ceremony, this determined daughter has no choice but to drive cross-country with her equally willful mother, Norleen Sprunt. Rising above their age-old mother-daughter issues, Norleen and Savannah work together to get the nuptials back on track. In a surprising and heart warming resolution, they forge an exciting new path for their own relationship and welcome the new bride into their delightfully wacky family. This family-friendly comedy will have you laughing your way across the country and all the way down the aisle!
“This show is a great opportunity for Southside Theatre Guild to showcase a diverse group of our talented actors,” says Chris Shellnutt, director. “The play is almost like an old fashioned variety TV show where you get to see an assorted group of interesting and sometimes bizarre characters in different settings and situations throughout the cross country journey that ‘Mama”’and her daughter share. We are delighted to showcase some of our veteran favorites like Susan Gillespie and Jill Coleman along with some new actors making their first appearances on the STG stage.”
Peter Ustinov said, “Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious.” “Humor is unavoidable,” says Director Gloria Wright. “It’s everywhere in life, and in the theatre it’s the most difficult to get right, both as an actor and a director. The characters of Mama Won’t Fly are seriously funny. Their outlandish situations and dialogue make for a great comedic evening at the theatre.”
Actors from Fayette, Coweta, Clayton, and Fulton counties are in the cast for this show. Many are veterans to the stage at Southside Theatre.
“It has been fun and challenging to direct this cast of great characters,” Gloria says.
Mama Won’t Fly runs July 11 – July 21 with performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00 and a Sunday matinee at 2:30.
Adult tickets are $20 if purchased online and $25 at the door.
