Lawrence J. DeGennaro, 88, of Peachtree City passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 28, 1930, Mr. DeGennaro is survived by his wife Edna Whitney DeGennaro and his six children: Laura (David) Hanson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan (Jeff) Penick of Ellensburg, WA, Lisa (Danny) Adams of Madison, Ga., Mark (Amy) DeGennaro of LaGrange, Ga., Beth (Chad) Matheny of Newnan, Ga., and Christine (Mike) Cushing of Fayetteville, Ga.   He will also be greatly missed by 19 grandchildren: Jennifer Lewis of Flagstaff, Ariz., Michael Penick of Anchorage, Ark.; Jessica Adams of Richmond, Va.; Samantha Newberry of Eugene, Ore.; Lindsey McClendon of LaGrange, Ga.; Cameron Cushing, Michaela Cushing, Emily Cushing, Sara Cushing and Jeremiah Vrudny, Fayetteville, Ga.; Daniel Adams and Will Adams of Madison, Ga.; Kristina Matheny of Newnan, Ga.; Courtney Christian and Katie Matheny of Atlanta, Ga.; Rachel DeGennaro, Abby DeGennaro, Lilly DeGennaro and Brian DeGennaro of LaGrange, Ga.; and 8 great grandchildren.   He is also survived by one sister, Patricia Hammarstrom of Olive Branch, Miss, and by brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Whitney of Southbury, Conn.; he is predeceased by sister Antoinette Lucibello, father Louis DeGennaro, and mother Sophie DeGennaro of New Haven, Conn..

Mr. DeGennaro graduated from Yale University in New Haven, Conn. with a degree in Civil Engineering, and he worked as an engineer for most of his life.   Mr. DeGennaro enjoyed being with his family and friends, traveling, and playing the saxophone and clarinet.   Playing in the Peachtree City Wind Ensemble brought much joy to his later years, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Peachtree City Wind Ensemble (donate at peachtreewindemsemble.org).

There was a viewing at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, Ga. on Saturday, February 9th from 3 – 5 p.m. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, followed by a private family graveside service at Georgia National Cemetery.
