David Dwight Phillips, 63, of Fayetteville, Georgia went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 3, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born October 1, 1955 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Victor Karl Phillips, Sr and Janice Phillips Larrick.
David graduated from Linsly Military Institute in 1975 and Westminster College in 1979 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. He earned a Master’s Degree from West Georgia University in 1989. David worked at Pathway Christian School in East Point, GA from 1983-1989. In 1989 David was employed by the Fayette County Board of Education and worked until his retirement in 2014. During those years he worked at Fayette Middle School and Bennett’s Mill Middle School as a History teacher and coach. He coached football, basketball, wrestling, cross country, and track. Countless lives have been impacted through his devotion to his career. David always considered his classroom and coaching arena his greatest mission field.
David served in various capacities within the church including youth sponsor, deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. He was always willing to serve where needed.
David is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Michelle Pontius Phillips; children, Clarinda Trask (Jamey), Eric Phillips (Jill), and Bradley Phillips; grandchildren Levi Trask, Logan Trask, Landon Phillips, Leslie Trask, and Benjamin Phillips; parents Harold and Janice Larrick; siblings, Joel Phillips (Kim), Elizabeth Phillips, Clarinda Roe (Phil), Victoria Kelly (Mike), Undine Fader (Phil), Victor Karl Phillips, Jr (Karen), Eleanore Dickey (Joe), and Gordon Phillips (Janine); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a devout husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. David was always an encourager of others and the biggest cheerleader for his family.
There was a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. A celebration of David’s life and legacy took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Fayetteville Christian Church, with interment at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville, Ga.
