Only one local team, perhaps the most likely one, survived the first two rounds of the GHSA state softball playoffs and has reached the state tournament in Columbus.

East Coweta, the defending AAAAAAA state champion, won two straight over Cherokee to advance to the quarterfinals. The final eight teams will be reseeded for the state tournament, scheduled for Oct. 25-27 at the Columbus Softball Complex.

In other second-round action, Northgate lost two straight to Dalton in AAAAAA and Starr’s Mill lost two straight to Locust Grove while Landmark lost two straight to Stratford Academy in the A Private classification.
