Winifred Huggins Simpson “Miss Winnie”, 104, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 in Franklin, N.C. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. on August 26, 1914 to the late Ella Corinne and Amos Cleveland Huggins. Her family moved to Fayetteville in 1952. In 2008, she moved to Franklin, N.C.
Miss Winnie was a very active, long-time member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
Miss Winnie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Otis Fay Simpson; her parents; her son, Raymond Simpson; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her sons, Gary Simpson (Jeanne) of Franklin, N.C. and David Simpson, Bowden, Ga.; her grandchildren, Joseph Simpson (fianceé , Michele Fender) of Douglas, Ga. and Ben Simpson (wife, Alexandra Gagne) of Phoenix, Ariz.; her great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Joseph, Jasmine and Madison Simpson; and many nieces and nephews.
Miss Winnie’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in the Overton Chapel, Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Burial will follow the service at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville, Ga. The family will receive friends Monday evening, October 15, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, Ga.
