Robert Hartley Carelock, Sr., 86, of Peachtree City passed away peacefully on September 27, 2018 at home with family.
Bob was born September 6 , 1932 to James Henry and Mattie Belle Carelock in Franklin, N.C. The family later moved to Hopewell, Va. After his father’s untimely death, his mother married Allen Redd, who was dearly loved by the family. Bob graduated from Hopewell High School in 1951. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Airforce and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute. He began working for Delta Air Lines on January 1 , 1958 as a mechanic in Baltimore, ultimately advancing to manager of Production Control in Atlanta. He forged lasting friendships throughout his 35-year career at Delta. While working in Atlanta, Bob met the love of his life, Elaine. They were married on August 4 , 1967 and were blessed with over 51 years of marriage.
Bob participated fully at Bethany Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City and finally Evergreen Church, serving in capacities as deacon, elder, usher, communion server and Sunday school class manager. Upon retirement, Bob had a great time driving a bus for Fayette County Schools. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City for years, especially enjoying greeting folks at the annual pancake breakfast fundraiser for youth programs. Bob liked gardening and adored keeping his grandchildren, putting miles on the golf cart, visiting parks and looking for adventure. Bob’s other passion was all things golf. He loved playing golf with his second family, the Golden Golfers and the Fryer Golf Group.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; and siblings, Aubrey (Myrtle), Charles (Joann), Harold (Ann), Hilda (Dick) Hazelwood, and Evelyn (Calvin) Harrison.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Rob Carelock; daughter, Lisa (Jay) Crain; grandchildren, Robby, Riley, and Reese Carelock, Ashlynn and Bryce Crain; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9th at Evergreen Church in Peachtree City.
