A project that started more than a year ago is nearing the finish line.

Last week, spans were lowered at the spillway on Lake Peachtree for a new bridge. City Manager Jon Rorie said the city now moves into the final area of main work on the project.

“The bridge was set in place, but it needs to have concrete added on the bridge sections. Also, we need to add the path to access the bridge and discharge the bridge on each side. The path project for the spillway bridge will use concrete and will be outsourced to a contractor. The contractor is scheduled to begin the project Sept. 15.

In the interim, city staff will be replacing other sections of the asphalt path, installing some path drainage systems, and landscaping areas adjacent to the path. “Ultimately, we hope to complete the project by October,” Rorie said.

In August 2017, the City Council approved the $4.387 million low bid by North Georgia Concrete, Inc. for the Lake Peachtree spillway project.

Fayette County will contribute $2 million and SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) revenues will make up the remaining amount. Those revenues will repay an anticipated Ga. Environmental Finance Authority loan that comes with a .81 percent rate of interest.
