Robert David Bean, age 65, of Fayetteville, Ga. died at his home on July 28, 2018 of lymphoma.
He was born in Beaufort, S.C. on August 30, 1952 to John Robert Bean and Iva Lee Templeton Bean. David graduated from Walker High School in Atlanta, Ga. in 1970 and joined the DeKalb County Fire Services in 1973. In the following year he was trained with the first class of paramedics in Georgia, joining the DeKalb County Emergency Medical Services in 1974 as licensed Georgia Paramedic #19. During his 29 years of service with DeKalb County, he served as Fire Captain, Georgia EMT President, and retired from DeKalb County as EMS Commander in 2002. From 2001-2006 he was the Director of the Offices of EMS/Trauma for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, after which he worked as an EMS consultant.
His hobbies included woodworking, metal detecting, bee keeping, ham radio operation, boating, fishing, camping, and tractor restoration.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Angela Gilbert Bean; daughters: Heather Bean and her husband, Brian Jones, of Tempe, Ariz., Lori Bean of Griffin, Ga., and Kimberly Bean, of Fayetteville, Ga.; mother: Iva Lee Templeton Bean, of Conley, Ga.; and brother: Michael Bean, of Hanson, Ky.
A memorial service and reception was held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Fayetteville Christian Church, 114 Hickory Road, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214. www.fayettevillechristian.org.
