Martha Mae Matthews, 94, of Tyrone, passed away April 8, 2018.
She was born in Kenwood, Ga. on December 6, 1923 to William and Bessie Darnell. She retired after 35 years as a cafeteria manager for the Fayette County school system, where she worked at Fayette County High School and Hood Avenue Elementary. After retirement, she worked part time at Smith & Davis.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Edgar Matthews, five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Jacky Matthews (Melba); daughters, Patricia Peacock and Judy Banks (Jerry); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Darnell; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Tyrone, Ga. Burial will follow at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, Tyrone. The family received friends, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
