Marilyn J. Schirm died peacefully on April 8th after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

Marilyn was born on November 3, 1942 in Chicago, to the late Marian and Oldrich Johannes. She spent her childhood in Fox River Grove, Ill. and the last 30 years of her life in Peachtree City.

Marilyn earned a BS degree in nursing at the University of Iowa in 1964. Following her husband’s career moves, and in addition to raising her sons, she accepted part-time assignments as an obstetric nurse, a medical/surgical nurse and a visiting nurse. Upon arriving in Peachtree City, Marilyn accepted a full-time position as a Quality Assurance/Utilization Review Analyst at Southern Regional Hospital. She retired in 2008 after working there 20 years.

Marilyn was an active participant in many activities; she became Master Gardener and was a member of both the Peachtree City Garden Club and the Fayette Master Gardeners, she loved to play bridge on both social and competitive levels, attaining the rank of Bronze Life Master in duplicate bridge, she was an avid golfer, playing three days a week, and lastly, she loved to travel, having been to all the continents and many countries therein.

Marilyn is survived by Jim, her husband of 55 years, her brother, Michael of Spartica, N.J., her sons, Jeff (Maggie) of Marietta and Eric of Alpharetta, and five grandchildren – Kate (Tyler) Rehi of Cumming, Jake, a student at Kennesaw State University, Mallory, a student at Birmingham Southern College, Brendan, a student at Hillgrove High School, and Matt, a student at West Forsyth High School.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at Mowell Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City on Saturday, April 14, 2018. A gathering will start at 1 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m..
