John Roger Williams, loving husband and proud father, passed away on February 28, 2018 in Peachtree City, Ga.
John was born in Pasadena, Calif. on June 25, 1949 to the late William J. and Ann Hunt Williams, their first son and the second of three children. He grew up in La Jolla, Calif. and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1968.
Following high school, John attended Mesa College in San Diego and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in San Diego.
John’s early career was in aviation. He held flight engineer, captain, and first officer positions for numerous carriers in a variety of aircraft in California, Hawaii, Alaska, and Georgia. Following his aviation career, he became a small business owner. In 1993, he opened the first Baskin-Robbins in Peachtree City in Braelinn Village. Then in 2004, he built, owned, and operated the Georgian Park Car Wash in Kedron Village. In addition to being a small business owner, John worked for the FCBOE Transportation Department for eleven years, retiring in August 2017.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Phyllis Cashen Williams, and his daughters, Laura Williams of La Jolla, Calif. and Meghan Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; his siblings Sandra (Richard) Smith and Richard (Irene) Williams of La Jolla, Calif.; his nephews Hunt (Sharifah) Smith of Hong Kong and Andrew (Sabrina) Williams of Ogden, Utah; his niece Alexa (Drew) Anderson and their son Smith of Englewood, Colo.; and his sister-in-law Ellen Cashen of Fairbanks, Alaska.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to a charity of your choice.
