One of the projects on the SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) list for Peachtree City is a path crossing on Crosstown Drive. City Manager Jon Rorie (in photo above) at the Feb. 15 City Council meeting said plans for the hybrid-crossing project are now in the works.
To be located near the intersection of Crosstown Drive and Ga. Highway 74 South, the crossing will employ a pedestrian-activated HAWK (Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon) apparatus for those crossing the busy Crosstown Drive roadway. Simply stated, it’s an at-grade crossing with a flashing light.
The city has another HAWK crossing on Rockaway Road.
City Engineer David Borkowski said a traffic analysis showed more than 19,000 vehicles per day travelling Crosstown Drive, and more than 1,500 vehicles per hour during peak times.
It is due to those values that a striped crosswalk was not recommended.
Though no timeline was announced, Rorie said the project is now in the works.
The HAWK is one of a number of multi-use path projects slated to be accomplished using SPLOST revenues.
