John Michael “Johnny” Penn, 68, of Brooks, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018.
He was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 3, 1949 to the late Darrell “Jack” and Irene Penn. Raised in Atlanta, he attended Walter F. George High School and graduated from West Georgia College with a business degree. He was a retired businessman, having owned three successful businesses, Penn Drywall Company, Atlanta South Supply, and Atlanta South Self Storage. Johnny was a faithful member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. He also loved fishing, the Georgia Bulldogs and working on projects at the house.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell “Jack” and Irene Penn. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debbie Penn of Brooks; three daughters, Dena (Chuck) Betsill of Sharpsburg, Christi Penn of Brooks, and Jacki (John) Raymond of Brooks; seven grandchildren, Deborah, Michael, Madalin, Caitlin, Brayden, Samantha and Leah; one great-granddaughter, Melody; his sisters, Irene Penn of Fayetteville, Clare (Aden) Wade of Jonesboro, Jackie (David) Gertsch of Douglasville, Jessie (Alan) Garrett of Jonesboro, and Janie Penn of Bonifay, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, with Rev. John Barnes officiating. Burial was at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, Ga. The family received friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
