Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will once again host a meal packing event in September. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Robert J. Burch Elementary,  330 Jenkins Rd. This will be the seventh year Hopewell has hosted this event. Members  and volunteers have packed a total of 77,328 meals during that time.

This year church members have also invited Bethany UMC to participate.

The event will be held at Burch Elementary. Hopewell has partnered with this school over the past several years to give aid and foster good relations with the teachers, parents, and children. The bulk of the packing volunteers will come from the churches and from Burch. The project is open for volunteers from the community and everyone is welcome to come and participate.

Volunteers should call the church, 770-306-7537, to sign up to participate. The event begins at 10 a.m. and volunteers should be in place by 9:30 a.m. This year Hopewell plans to pack 16,200 meals.

The meals consist of dehydrated vegetables, rice, seasonings, and vitamins. Volunteers will fill, weigh, and seal the ingredients in poly bags to be shipped to hungry people around the world.

“It is a very fulfilling and worthwhile event,” a spokesperson said. “All ages can participate because there are many jobs to be done on event day.”

For more information, or to volunteer, contact Hopewell UMC at 770-306-7537. Those who would like to help, but can’t participate, may send monetary donations which are always welcome. Make checks payable to Hopewell UMC, mark the check for Rise Against Hunger (RAH), and send it to 351 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, GA 30290.
