It all started back on June 10, 1937 in Alexander City, Ala., when Lucius Douglas Reynolds was born to Lucius McDonald and Sarah Frances. Doug was the big brother of two sisters, Lanay and Kathy. They spent their childhood hanging out at Reynolds Grocery, his parents’ “mom and pop” store. He played basketball in high school and regularly attended Orr Street Baptist Church.
He started working at Delta Airlines in 1968 as a junior mechanic and retired in 1993 as foreman in the RB211 engine and test cell. He was on the Delta Golf Committee for 30 years and could frequently be found on one of the Canongate courses with his many golfing cronies.
Doug, at age 80, passed to his heavenly home August 21, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irna Reynolds, whom he married on June 14, 1958; and their sons, Alan Douglas (wife Patti), Roger Scott, and Gregg Arthur; four grandchildren, Morgan, Macy, Brannon, and Justin; his sister, Kathy Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lanay Sims.
He and Irna were charter members of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church since 1974. They sang in the choir from the beginning, and he was known for his beautiful bass voice.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, Peachtree City. Burial followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The family received friends on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
