Tom Stroud, 74, of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away peacefully on July 24, 2017 surrounded by his family after an extended illness.
Tom was born in Portsmouth, Va. on December 19, 1942 to Benny and Mildred Stroud. Tommy graduated from Craddock High School and attended East Carolina University where he completed his undergraduate work and Master’s degree in music. While in college, he met Claire and married in June 1967. After graduate school, Tommy taught band in the public schools for several years. He later became employed by New York Life Insurance in office management.
Tom served in Norfolk, Virginia until 1983 and then transferred to Atlanta, Ga. In the late 1980s, Tom continued to work in the insurance field with Confederation Life. In his later years, Tom returned his focus to teaching music.
Tom served in the community as conductor of the Peachtree City wind ensemble. Tom taught band at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Peachtree City and also shared his love of music with private instruction until retirement. Tom was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, Ga.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Claire Rosser Stroud; his children, Andrea Stroud Napier (John) of Macon and Chris Stroud of Peachtree City; and his grandchildren, Jack Napier and Stroud Napier. The family received friends at Mowell Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral was held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 12 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, Ga.
A private family burial service was held at Westminster Memorial Garden Cemetery following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tommy’s memory to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.
