A Senoia couple was arrested on July 10 by agents of the  Ga. Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on child cruelty charges relating to the couple’s young daughter during her infancy.

Brian Scott Campbell, 34, and Amanda Renee Campbell, 31, were both charged with second degree child cruelty through criminal negligence which caused cruel or excessive physical or mental pain, according to Coweta County Assistant District Attorney Kevin McMurray.

McMurray said the charges, based on a grand jury indictment, allege that, as an infant, the girl sustained a retinal hemorrhage, a fractured rib and subdural hemorrhages. The injuries to the young child are alleged to have occurred last summer.

McMurray said Coweta authorities requested GBI’s assistance in the case.

GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles on Thursday said the agency began the investigation in October 2016 after a request was made by Coweta authorities. Allegations at the time were that Amanda Campbell had dropped her then-4-month-old daughter.

A subsequent examination at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta showed previous injuries that led to the consideration that there might have been prior abuse, Miles said.
