The intersection at Ga. Highway 92 North and Veterans Parkway has been approved, with work expected to begin as early as mid-summer.
The Fayette County Commission on May 25 unanimously approved a $894,881 bid by E.R. Snell to construct the intersection. Veterans Parkway, currently closed north of Lee’s Mill Road, is completed nearly all the way to Hwy. 92 North.
Public Works Director Phil Mallon after the meeting said the project is expected to get underway in mid-summer, adding that there is some right-of-way acquisition remaining on the project.
There was no public comment on the agenda item.
Veterans Parkway prior to its construction was touted by a vocal group to be the “road to nowhere.”
Since that time, Pinewood Atlanta Studios, currently at 1 million sq. ft. and counting, has been constructed, as has Georgia Military College, Fayette County’s first constructed college campus. Also now underway is Pinewood Forrest, eventual home to 1,300 residences, 250,000 sq. ft. of retail, two hotels and a host of other offerings.
