Janice Goggans Calkins, 57, of Peachtree City, Ga. and formerly of Colleyville, Texas and Beeville, Texas passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 after a long, courageous fight with breast cancer.
Janice was born November 24, 1959 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Lacy Lamar and Hila Mae Goggans. She graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1978 and then graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1982.
Priding herself as a homemaker, she dedicated her life to raising her three girls; they were truly the light of her life. She touched many lives and had many dear friends, including her friends from her time at Eastern Airlines, O.C. Taylor Elementary PTA, Literally Fun Book Club, and Lifetouch photography. Her pastimes included holding babies in the NICU, reading to Allison’s first grade class, cheering on the TCU Horned Frogs, and especially her beach time at St. Simon’s Island, which brought her great joy.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lacy Lamar Goggans; her mother, Hila Mae Goggans; her father-in-law, Roland Niles Calkins, Jr.; her mother-in-law, Ann Lee Miller; and her brother-in-law, Mark Calkins.
Janice leaves behind her three daughters, Leigh Ann, Allison, and Meridith Calkins and their father, Scott Calkins; her brother, Thomas L. “Skeet” Goggans (Carol); her sisters-in-law, Tammy Calkins, Linda “Missy” Landmann (Dwight), Loraine Cavoto (Jim), and Lee Ann Irion (Robert); and numerous, beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Carl J Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, with Reverend Sean Robinson officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Richland Cemetery in Richland, Texas, with Reverend Floyd Peterson officiating.
