After the Libya and Iraq debacles, it is clear we should not embroil ourselves in the Syrian conflict without justification and specific Congressional action. That is why critics on both the left (MSNBC commentators) and right (Rand Paul) have criticized Trump’s strike on the air force base.
But, I do not necessarily agree. It depends on why we did what we did in Syria.
If this strike was a statement about a humanitarian red line (chemical weapons), then it was at least understandable, even though Congress should have been consulted.
On the other hand, if this was the schoolyard bully flexing his muscles yet again, with no understanding of the three branches of government and their functions (possible given his past statements), then the action is questionable.
Time will tell.
