The quarterfinals of the GHSA state basketball tournament will include three teams from Fayette County.

Action in the third round of the playoffs is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Wednesday, March 1.

Both varsity teams from Sandy Creek are alive and kicking in the AAAA bracket after second-round wins. The Patriots downed Westover 84-73 and will play either Perry or NW Whitfield next. The Lady Patriots, after an 81-47 win over Westover, will host Madison County.

Fayette County’s boys move on in AAAAA after a 66-45 victory over Columbia. Next up is Carver-Atlanta or Dutchtown.

Also in AAAAA, the Lady Tigers closed out their season with a 59-48 loss to Carrollton. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs fell 45-26 to Southwest DeKalb, and on the boys’ side Starr’s Mill came up short against Miller Grove by a 55-33 score.

Landmark’s girls ended the year in the A Private bracket with a 69-64 defeat at the hands of Pinecrest.
