Citizen-Community-Graphic11A total of 17 students from Fayette County High, McIntosh High, and Sandy Creek High schools took first and second place honors at the 2017 SkillsUSA Georgia Region 5 Competition at Southern Crescent Technical College and are advancing to the state conference in March.

Placing first and receiving gold medals at the competition were (Fayette County High) Kayla Baldon, Broadcast News Production; Keven Khamphounoung, Broadcast News Production; Angelique Maxwell, Broadcast News Production; Angel Roberson-Colbert, Broadcast News Production; (Sandy Creek High) Zach Bramblett, Information Technology Service; Anya Kerkemeyer, Pin Design; Austin Culpepper, Prepared Speech; and Megan D’Errico, T-Shirt Design.

Placing second and receiving silver medals were (Fayette County High) Dominic Owens, Extemporaneous Speaking; Sara Dayani, Prepared Speech; (McIntosh High) Leigh Wheeler, Pin Design; Arik Li, Quiz Bowl; Mark Ni, Quiz Bowl; Man Shah, Quiz Bowl; James Wang, Quiz Bowl; Jonathan Zhang, Quiz Bowl; and (Sandy Creek High) Tyler Ferguson, Graphic Communications.

The SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference will take place March 23-25 at the Georgia International Convention Center.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps high school and college students enrolled in career and technical education programs to excel by teaching employability skills such as communication, problem solving and leadership in conjunction with their trade, technical and service occupation skills.
