Bruce Hilliard Carraway, Jr, 96, of Peachtree City, Ga., died on January 11, 2017.
Formerly of Greensboro, N. C., he moved to Atlanta in 1974. Son of the late Captain Bruce Hilliard Carraway, Sr. and Berta Marguerite Lindsay Carraway, Mr. Carraway was born on September 20, 1920. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Gaitley Carraway.
Mr. Carraway grew up in High Point and graduated from High Point University with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. Carraway served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He had a long career as a merchandise manager with Sears, first in Greensboro then in Atlanta. He was a lifelong United Methodist and his strong faith was evidenced by his active involvement in several different churches. With his strong love of family, he was an encourager, always wanting to make things better.
Mr. Carraway is survived by his three children and their families: Anne C. Dooley, and husband, Barry Dooley, of Greensboro, N. C.; Beth C. Crumpton, and husband, Robin Crumpton, of Peachtree City, Ga.; and Bruce H. Carraway, III of Canton, Ga. He had eight grandchildren, leaving them a legacy of faith and family love: Andrew Carraway and wife Carmen, Hannah Peptis and husband Jason, Adam Carraway, Rebecca Dooley, Lindsay Crumpton, Allison Crumpton Hutchings and husband Dave, Jacob Dooley, and Ben Carraway. His great grandchildren are Sam Hutchings, Chris Hutchings, Tyler, Tanner, and Callahan Peptis, and Anna Carraway.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church, Greensboro, conducted by Reverend Mark Vickers. The family received friends in the Gathering Space at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A private interment followed the service in Oakwood Memorial Park in High Point, N.C.
