Barbara Kerlin, a lifelong resident of Fayette County, passed away January 8, 2017, at the age of 82.

She was in elementary education in Fayette County for the entire 31 years of her career. After teaching 2nd grade at Fayetteville Elementary School for over 18 years, she served as assistant principal before moving to Hood Avenue Elementary School as principal for five years. Barbara also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Dunn Kerlin and Homer Kerlin.

Barbara is survived by cousins, Ashley Jones, Douglas N. Jones and wife Joyce, Kenny Dunn and wife Lynn, Deborah Jones Cook and husband Wallace, and Becky Dunn Smith; and nieces and nephews, Douglas Jones, Jr., Robby Jones, Christy Duffey, Stephanie Landrum, Allison Dunn, Kim Yearwood, Shelley Norris, Allen Smith, Lynn Sansom, and Joe Smith.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Overton Chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Glenn Stringham and Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Anitoch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
