Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fayetteville will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a banquet on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Prince Hall Lodge in Riverdale.  The Theme is “Climbing Higher Heights by Faith in 2016.”

This sesquicentennial commemoration began last August with a Family Picnic on the beautiful grounds of Mount Olive, where attendees wore sesquicentennial light gray polo shirts.  A Day of Prayer was also held every fifth Sunday of 2016 to commemorate the historic milestone.

Mount Olive was organized in 1866 and serves as one of the oldest African-American churches in Fayette County.  Mount Olive’s forefathers demonstrated a “journey of faith.”

Under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Ware and Co-Pastor J.T. Ware, the Mount Olive family will “continue the journey of the next 150 years challenged with the task of ‘Walking by Faith.’”

“Mount Olive’s purpose is to start an evangelical revolution in the lives of residents of Fayette and surrounding counties,” a spokesperson said.  “Members strive to have a presence and be an active voice in the community.”

Mount Olive is located at 1565 Ga. Highway 92 North (Forrest Avenue), Fayetteville.
